Setting Goals & Making Change in your Life by Leah
This article takes you through personal steps in making changes in your life. The steps follow through a quest for financial freedom of creating wealth. The steps can also be applied to a variety of different changes like losing weight or changing bad habits. First of all you must walk into you goals just like you are learning math, a foreign language, or a sport. Practice, practice, practice! Well you might be asking, "How can you practice at being wealthy?" We all were brought up knowing and practicing one way of managing money. The knowledge I had regarding money wasn't working for me so I had to learn a whole new world of ideas to change my behavior. I dove in head first to money management involving words, terms, and ideas that I have never grasped before. My world was different from the millionaires I read about. So I needed to know what they knew that I didn't. I am going to tell you the steps I took to climb my stair way or mountainous goal of changing my wealth because, thus far, it has changed my life. This change was only possible because I challenged my world or comfort and forced change in my life. Here are six steps I took in my journey to make that change happen:
1. Immerse yourself in the subject. I Read so many books on the subject with many different view points. One of the first books I read regarding money stated that most people we associate with make pretty much the same amount of money we do. Sure enough, with little exception, most of my personal acquaintances were just like me. Don't get me wrong I am a professional and make a descent amount of money to buy most anything I desire but being in the contest of, who owns the most toys comes along with owning the most debt. So as I meander across the waves in the 30 foot Baja or travel with my 40 foot trailer I pondered my meaning of leisure time. Do I own my toys or do they own me. Getting to the point, I wanted different results then I have ever had before so therefore I needed different sources. I turned to books and tapes on getting rich… even choosing authors that I didn't necessary like to provoke change. My experience thus far had created the habits and financial knowledge I had gained to that point in my life and I needed this new information to create change. Through this venture I felt a bit overloaded at times but consistency with the subject and a variety of different facts and opinions on the subject started to provoke change.
2. Write down clear and concise goals. I did this initially by stating my goals vaguely. As time went on I learned more about the subject and I was able to define my goals a bit clearer. This step took me a while but it was so important. It sounds so easy, 'write down your goals,' but it wasn't easy for me. I had a small fear that I might fail or actually have to work at something. I started slow with this goal. I finally decided, even though I didn't have a clear goal (at that time) I was going to write anything relating to my desired financial freedom. When I actually put the pen to the paper I didn't create a master piece I wrote a few sentences. As my journey went on I changed my goals as my vision became clearer. I also realized the importance of returning to my written goals, if not to change them, to be revitalized and refocused.
3. Share your goals. This one hurt me! I really contemplated the purpose. I felt that those around me may belittle me for my goal. I feared (once again that word 'fear') that individuals would put me down for the fact that I wasn't grateful for what I had. Then I examined my confidence. I knew I had what it takes to do anything. I have succeeded before but more often on the quite side! Knowing that my quiet confidence gets me through I decided to choose this route. No, I didn't stand on a rock and declare to the world that I wanted to be rich. I let it out a bit at a time. As I told a few individuals I realized even if they don't agree with me I didn't take it personally. After a few mentions I had people asking me to tell my story. One brave day I stated my goal in front of a crowd of intelligent people just because that's what the books said to do. I felt I was really off topic, I was absorbed in fear, and the whole speech turned out a bit corny, in my opinion, but I was so excited that I actually did it. After that class I had many people approach me for some type of financial opportunity and actually felt a little overwhelmed by the attention. I honestly do have a positive affect on people but didn't know why so much for that particular class. I stated to an instructor of the class that it was going to be hard to choose these individuals and questioned why people were requesting my approval. She said, "Well it was the speech that you gave on the first day of class... it was awesome and inspiring to everyone including me." That speech wasn't prepared, it wasn't practiced but it was what I felt in my heart. I was going too seceded! I am sure many in class looked at me as a joke but I definitely attracted those individuals who were interested in my vision and goal. 4. Ignore the negativity! The people in our worlds do not want to hear how we want to change. If you change your world, you inevitably change something in their world! It could be jealousy, fear, or just the plain old fact that it is human nature to resist change even if it is possibly for the better. So try to branch out and attract those who are interested in your goal. If, in turn, you attract those who are extremely opposed who cares… maybe you'll learn from them… maybe you will change their focus… Does it really matter? What matters is what you want to achieve! 5. Sales?! I saw the word, 'sales' and shut down. I learned that everyone has to be good in sales. Let me state, I am good in sales and have succeeded in past sales jobs as a stepping stone. Then I ran like crazy at the first opportunity to GET AWAY from sales. Now I learn sales is standing in the way of my goals. I wasn't happy but with all of my new knowledge I was learning to accept new information and ideas. As I studied more I realized the experts were referring to sales a bit different. I didn't need the competitive sales but only to sell this idea to myself. After I was sold and believed in myself people will begin to follow. When I was certain where I was going I would find other leaders like myself. All of the sources stated Network Marking ventures were the ideal way to go because of the free training in sales. So I researched to find the best opportunities out there and dove in head first to a couple different ventures. I chose health related opportunities because that was another big interest of mine. I absorbed as much training as possible and found other benefits I could never have imagined. 6. Never Quit. This single step is so important! No matter if you lose site of every other step in the process you have to keep going until you get it right or achieve your goal! At times I forgot about the excitement of my goal, changed my opinion, and got too busy to worry about change. There are so many things to keep you busy in your current life to distract you! But if you want change to happen you have to make it happen. Keep refereeing back to your written goals and do what ever it takes to keep your goal at the forefront. You will get discouraged. You will get distracted. You will want to give up because change is difficult. But make your decision now and every day from here on out. Your ideas of today ultimately put you where you are in life today. If you want a different outcome in your life regarding financial, health, weight, etc… you have to change your current actions and you can not quit! As for me I would always recall the reasons that I wanted and needed this change… my family. Once I felt like giving up I looked at them for motivation. I didn't think, 'I need this to happen'... I didn't hope for the change to happen… I knew it would happen until it actually did!
